DHS Catalyst Colorguard named state champions
April Fools’ Day proved to be no joke to the Dawson High School Catalyst Colorguard as they were named state champions at the Texas Color Guard Circuit State Championships at Texas A&M University.
The team placed first in the Scholastic National A Blue Division with a score of 89.235 and had the highest score of all rounds of competition. Members were judged in several categories during their show which included equipment analysis, movement analysis, design analysis and general effect.
This marks the second varsity level state title and sixth overall state title for the DHS Catalyst Colorguard program since the school opened in 2007.

- Winter Guard International Houston Regional Champions
- Second at the Tompkins competition
- Second at the Winter Guard International Austin Regional
- Fourth at the Winter Guard International Southwest Power Regional in Denton
- First at the Pearland competition
Scores throughout the season factor into an overall national ranking, which currently has the DHS Catalyst Colorguard ranked 11th in the nation.
The last competition of the year takes place April 6-8 at the Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton, OH.
Members of the DHS Catalyst Colorguard include: Daria Arsto, Kennia Blackmon, Emersyn Blaylock, Breanna Camario, Claire Chauvin, Erikah Emanuel, Alejandra Gamboa, Juleah Hall, Caitlyn Hamilton, Elizabeth Hergert, Thaige Johnson, Olivia Jones, Madeline Mellen, Aliah Nazario, Ariana Nazario, Kimie Nevarez, Mia Pompa and Elisabeth Williams.
