President Obama will deliver a national address to students
The U.S. Department of Education has notified school districts that on Tuesday, Sept. 8 President Obama will deliver a national address directly to students on the importance of education.
Pearland ISD is unable to accommodate live video streaming on all district computers and guarantee an uninterrupted viewing experience. Read more in "Technology Information Obama Speech".
Our Technology Department will record the broadcast and make it available to teachers who choose to incorporate the president’s address into their curriculum. The broadcast will be made available for teachers Tuesday afternoon for a two-week period. Parents may refuse to allow their child to view President Obama’s address in a letter to their child’s campus.
Students whose parents do not want their child to watch the president’s speech will be taken to a supervised area during class viewing. They may or may not have an alternate assignment. If parents choose to keep a student home on the day the address is viewed in his/her classroom, it will count as an absence.
The district has received numerous calls and emails with varied opinions about President Obama’s address. Based on the comments we have received, we believe it is important to provide our parents with a choice to allow or deny their child to view the speech.
